FAQ
What does "no response to A2S_INFO" mean?
A2S_INFO is the standard Source-engine query for server name, players, map, and game. We send a UDP packet to gmod.nextworld.net:27015 and wait up to 6 seconds for a reply. No reply = either the server is offline, the host blocks UDP, or the server explicitly rate-limits A2S queries (some community servers do, especially after DDoS waves).
Can players still connect if A2S fails?
Sometimes. A2S and the gameplay port are usually the same UDP port, so an A2S failure is a strong signal the server is down, but not 100%. Servers behind specific anti-DDoS appliances may filter A2S while passing valid game traffic.
What's the cadence?
Every 5 minutes from each probe method. Result freshness is shown in the freshness row above.

Methodology
- Probe
- We send an A2S_INFO UDP query to the server and parse the response for server name, map, game, player count, and VAC status.
- Counts as DOWN
- The A2S_INFO query times out or returns malformed data.
- Counts as DEGRADED
- Reserved for servers that respond but omit required fields (e.g. player count missing).
- Detail
- Latency measures the full A2S_INFO round-trip; some servers rate-limit UDP queries, which shows as intermittent down even when players can connect.
- Cadence
- Every 5 minutes, in parallel across 4 independent probe methods (HTTP/1.1 with strict TLS, HTTP/2, a browser User-Agent GET, and a curl-style HEAD) from our edge network. We check probe diversity, not geography — if a site blocks a non-browser User-Agent or only speaks HTTP/1.1, the four cards show it.
- Rate-limited targets
- If a host returns 429 or consistently drops connections from our IPs, we cap retries at 3 and report the last observed status, we do not flood the target to confirm the outage.
- Data source
- Our verdict is based on direct multi-method probes, every result above is a live network request, never a Twitter mention or DownDetector aggregate. User reports, when shown, appear separately below as a supplementary signal and are never used to determine the up/down verdict.
