Summary
You can check any website without an account, and anonymous checks are not tied to you. If you create an account we store your email address and the monitors you set up. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see card numbers. We do not sell data.
Information we collect
- Check queries: When you check a website, we record the domain checked and the probe result so the site can show recent checks, trending data, and 24-hour / 30-day history graphs. This record is about the target, not about you: it is not linked to your identity, account, or IP address.
- Account data (only if you sign up): Your email address and its verification status. Login uses short-lived email codes, so there is no password to store. Signing in sets a session cookie valid for 30 days.
- Monitors and alert channels (only if you create them): The targets you monitor and the alert destinations you configure (alert email addresses, webhook URLs).
- Billing data (paid plans only): Payments are processed by Stripe. We store your Stripe customer ID and your subscription tier and its status — never card numbers or bank details.
- Usage events: First-party, anonymous counters (the kind of action, the target checked, and a coarse country code from CDN headers). These contain no user identifier and are used for aggregate statistics like "checks run today".
- Analytics: We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand traffic patterns. This collects anonymized, aggregate data (page views, referrers, and anonymous interaction events such as which buttons or cards are clicked) with no cookies or personal identifiers. Interaction events record the UI element and its target — never who clicked it.
- Advertising: isitdown.io is ad-supported. We use Google AdSense on our content pages (the homepage, guides, hubs, and country pages). We do not load the ad script at all on check-result pages — the verdict, the probe-method cards, and the response-time graph — so no ad can ever be injected next to your results or confused with them. Paid plans (Pro, Max) see no ads anywhere. AdSense may use cookies to serve ads based on your visit to this and other sites. With Google Consent Mode v2, defaults are 'denied' until you click 'Accept all' in the cookie banner; clicking 'Reject all' keeps defaults denied and you'll see non-personalized ads only. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ad Settings.
Information we do NOT collect
- No account is required to check a website, and anonymous checks are not linked to you
- No passwords — login is by one-time email code
- No card numbers or bank details — payment details live with Stripe
- We do not track individual users across other websites
- We do not sell any data to third parties
Cookies
We set two first-party cookies: isd_consent (remembers your cookie-banner choice for one year) and, when you log in, a session cookie (30 days). Third-party services (Google AdSense, with consent) may set their own cookies as described above.

Data retention
Check results and uptime history are retained to power the public history graphs. Account data, monitors, and alert channels are kept while your account is active; monitors you delete are removed. Login codes expire within minutes of being issued.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you or delete the data tied to your account at any time via the contact page. If you are in the EU/UK, this includes your GDPR rights of access, rectification, and erasure.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
